Leslie "Les" Dawson, Jr. born 2nd February in Collyhurst, Manchester, was an English comedian and writer he was the original Mother in Law joke teller who's jokes have been told in bars and clubs for many years, his timing and deadpan way of delivering jokes made him one of the nations favorites.
His most famous alter ego was Cissie Braithwaite, he and Roy Barraclough who played Ada Shufflebotham delighted audiences as two elderly women, in this muse we would see Cissie (Les) facial expressions tell the who story on in which they would take on a life of their own, I still cannot look at Les with laughing.
Being of a large stature Les used this to introduced to his BBC television shows a dancing group of very large ladies called the Roly Polys, who became a massive hit with the audience, Les also brought his his unique style of piano playing."I saw six men kicking and punching the mother-in-law. My neighbour said 'Are you going to help?' I said 'No, Six should be enough." Les Dawson
