Born George Frederick Speight on June 19th in Thrybergh England Shane Worked as a miner at Silverwood Colliery near Rotherham, and was an amateur singer and stand-up comic in his spare time, following an accident at the colliery in which he was injured, he turned professional in 1974.

Performing you've lost that loving feeling years later on Pebble Mill, saw Paul in Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Funny Moments in 2006.

Shane was best known for his Ted Bovis role in Hi-de-Hi a role he played for eight years, and You Rang, M'Lord where he played the butler Alf Stokes.

During the 1990s and 2000s Paul had roles in Holby City, A Touch of Frost and on Emmerdale where he played the black sheep of the Dingle family who returned after being in prison.

But I think it is his role as “camp host” Ted Bovis, that Paul will be most fondly remembered.
